Todd,
Anna’s book list brings me great joy. She was a literary giant! It’s certainly time to take action on the next chapter of Anna’s own book. Fourth graders would be enthusiastic about such a personal project. It would open the door to meaningful activities! If it were my class I wouldn’t create curriculum and present it, I’d present “Anna” and let the class lead. Kids surprise us in wonderful ways.
I wouldn’t let the class get stuck in the sadness or fear of death, though. That’s a tender age (aren’t they all!). Id keep things upbeat, celebrating her legacy the honoring her. Writers leave works unfinished. its serious business to read their works and recognize their voice in order to continue. Did Anna have other writing to give those insights? It feels so FUN, Todd, to consider your creative idea!! The word posthumously comes to mind. Examples of famous writers whose work was finished by others. How about multiple endings written by small groups in secret and “unveiled” as a culmination day Authors’ Chair!!
If its a Christian school the shared beliefs play a major role. Even more possibilities.
I’m rambling…enough! The message is YES YES
Blessings,
Ms Friest
